A small pang of hurt crawled its way to his heart. He wanted the child that Cole was carrying to be his. He couldn’t change that. He knew that he wanted Cole even if he wasn’t pregnant. “I think you just called me a liar. That’s one thing you need to know about me. I never say things I don’t mean.” He reached down and rested a hand on Cole’s belly. “The day you got out of the car I thought you were handsome then, and even more now.”

Cole stared at him and Kane saw the signs of tears in the corner of his eyes. “I’m not usually superficial, but since I’ve realized the change in my body, I can’t help but feel a bit self-conscious around you.”

“Don’t be,” Kane told him. He leaned down and kissed Cole on his lips. “Don’t ever hide away from me. I want to see all of you,” he said looking down at him.

“You might not like the real me, once you get to know me.”

“I doubt that,” Kane said to him.

They gazed at each other and Kane knew he needed to take his time that night loving every inch of Cole. Because although he was ready to be in the man’s life, he didn’t want Cole to have any doubts about them.

“I want this,” he said honestly. “I don’t want to make promises I can’t keep. And I will have doubts about things: like am I the partner you need or”—he paused for a few seconds and looked down at Cole’s stomach—“the father that your baby will need.”

“I don’t know if I will be a good dad, either,” Cole said. “But maybe we could try together.”

“I’d like that. I’d like to be in both of your lives.” Kane lay on his back and pulled Cole with him. They lay halfway on the bed, the thought of sex was in the back of his mind.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to break the mood.”

Kane smiled. “You didn’t do anything wrong. I just realized how much I care about you and your feelings. I’ve never cared about anyone I’ve slept with.”

They lay silently on the bed and after a while, Cole fell asleep. Gently, Kane kissed him on the crown of his head before slipping out from under the sleeping man. He sat up and stared down at Cole and smiled. After that electrifying blowjob earlier that night, he had planned to take the other man to his bedroom and fuck him until he saw stars.
